Get inspired by Kasha

Is it possible to be a tattoo artist and a mother? Yes!

One of our favorite stories about motherhood and tattoos comes from Kash, an artist in our Philadelphia shop. Get inspired by her story of how she pursued her dream of getting a tattoo and how her kids are her biggest fans. She found tattoo training that worked for her at Body Art & Soul Tattoos and you can too.

Take a leap of faith with a career in the arts

She says, "Hi, my name is Cash and I'm a tattoo artist at Body Art in Soul. You know, many people tell you that art has no future. So I had to take a leap of faith for that.”

“One of the things that drew me to Body Art & Soul was that it had a training program. So when I knocked on the doors of local shops and then this one came up in my search, that's what made me come here. One of the things that attracted me to Body Art & Soul was the people who actually completed the program. So it mattered to me. They actually started and ended things, and people really became tattoo artists after they came here.”

Flexible internship

“The way Body Art & Soul planning helped me deal with home and my apprenticeship was that it was flexible enough that I could still work. I still had the opportunity to find time for my family and the like, and to continue my apprenticeship.”

Looking for time

“As a mother, one of the challenges I faced when I got into art was making time for it and making a career out of it. Since I am a tattoo artist and mother, it inspires me that my oldest really respects the fact that his mother is a tattoo artist and he is like one of my number one fans and he always gives me tattoo ideas. So I'm not just doing this for myself, the fact that my kids see what I'm doing and what I'm aiming for, you know what makes me go beyond myself, wanting to really do it."

Give it all

"One of the most important things I want my kids to take away from me while chasing my dreams is that they don't have to settle for the status quo, you know if that's what they're after and that's does not seem like an epic in the eyes of others. Don't settle for someone else's opinion. See for yourself and follow him. Don't do anything without putting your all into it."

Grow as an artist

“I want to probably have some kind of established style. But right now I'm still trying to find my footing and everything I want to do in art, but I'm still growing and learning as an artist, you know, so I don't want to limit myself too soon. For example, I'm only doing it now, but you know, I'm still trying to figure out who I am as an artist."
