Making art can be an expensive and sometimes unpredictable life.

Getting grants can not only give you an extra line or two on your resume, but also provide the stability and resources you need to be your most creative person.

However, not all grants are created equally.

Some grants require residency, others you must be nominated to be considered. We've put together a set of unlimited grants for individual artists, both emerging and established, so you can get started building your next proposal right away (plus a few with overseas opportunities).

LEAP Award

The LEAP Award provides a $1000 grant to a single grantee for an emerging contemporary craft artist. The gift is intended to be used in relation to a new product line or work. That undertakes to promote the work for one year, as well as provide special features to the six finalists.

WHO: New Artists

Scope: Contemporary Craft (ceramics, wood, metal/jewelry, glass, found materials, mixed media, fiber, or a combination of these materials)

Amount: $1,000

DEADLINEThe 2019 deadline will be announced.

GOOD PRINT: One artist selected for cash prize; six are selected for additional benefits. The application fee is $25.

 

IAP Scholarship

The Aaron Siskind Foundation is a 501(c)(3) foundation founded by the estate of distinguished photographer Aaron Siskind, who he has asked to be a resource for contemporary photographers. The award was established to support and encourage contemporary artists working in the field of photography.

WHO: Any U.S. artist over 21 years of age.

Scope: The work must be based on the idea of ​​still photography, but may include digital images, installations, documentary projects, and photographic prints.

NUMBER: Up to $ 10,000

DEADLINE: Deadline in May next year deadline

A micro-grant organization that funds "cool" ideas, set up local chapters around the world to provide $1000 rolling grants for "excellent projects". Each chapter defines what is "awesome" to their local community, but most include art initiatives and community or community art projects. There are also several chapters on grants around the world that provide a fairly brief summary: "We provide weekly grants with no strings attached to amazing initiatives that solve problems, grow the community, and bring joy."

WHO: Anyone is eligible to receive a grant - individuals, groups and organizations.

Scope: Any field. Each chapter has its own requirements, with most considering art projects.

NUMBER: $1000

DEADLINE: Rolling - Monthly grants are offered.

GOOD PRINT: Grants are not given for studio space or strictly for salaries or supplies. Need to make the community more "amazing". Think community service.

Founded in memory of famed artist Clark Hughlings, it offers strategic business education and support to professional artists. Through this unique program, The Clark Hulings Fund helps artists better manage their businesses and overcome certain business hurdles so they can make a living from their art. The program provides access to business tools, public relations, networking events and many other opportunities, as well as mentoring and financial support. 

WHO:  US citizens whose work has been professionally exhibited or published.

Scope: Artists, paper artists and/or sculptors using traditional media other than photography, film or video.

NUMBER: Up to $10,000.

DEADLINE: The next applications will be accepted in September 2018.

GOOD PRINT: 20 selected artists receive full training in the Clark Hulings Fund Business Accelerator workshop course. Ten of these artists will receive up to $10,000 to complete their business plan.

Created as part of Lee Krasner's legacy, the Pollock Krasner Foundation Grant was created to support and enhance the creative lives of artists. Since its founding in 1985, the foundation has given more than $65 million in awards to artists in over 77 countries. A competitive grant for artists with a large number of exhibitions, this grant has a long list of impressive alumni.

WHO:  Mid-level professional artists with obvious financial needs. Artists should actively exhibit their current work in professional art venues such as galleries and museums.

Scope: Painters, sculptors and artists working on paper, including prints.

NUMBER: Rewards range from $5,000 to $30,000, depending on need and circumstances.

DEADLINE: Constant

GOOD PRINT: Commercial artists, video artists, performance artists, filmmakers, artisans and computer artists are not eligible. Students are not eligible.

Artslink is now entering its 19th exchange cycle, although the organization has been in existence for over 50 years. Artslink promotes international citizen diplomacy through innovative art projects. Grantees work on proposed projects that build relationships, share ideas, and explore cultures. WHO: American artists, curators, leading and non-profit arts organizations.

Scope: Fine art and media artists are eligible to apply. The deadline for performing arts and literature is January 15, 2018. Students, administrators, critics, and amateur groups are not eligible to apply. Projects solely focused on research and film/video post-production are not allowed.

NUMBER: ArtsLink Projects awards typically range from $2,500 to $10,000 depending on the budget of the project.

GOOD PRINT: Artists offering solo exhibitions or performances may only be supported by ArtsLink if the exhibition or performance is part of a more comprehensive proposed project.

 

Fulbright Scholarship for

Arguably the most respected and recognized of the grants, the Fulbright Program has sent students, scholars, and professionals around the world since 1945 to conduct research, study, teach, and serve as ambassadors to the United States. With a rigorous process of getting recommendations, submitting an offer and finding a host sponsor, it's best to get started with this app early. But with around 8,000 grants awarded each year, it's worth taking the time to see if you can be one of the artists who embark on an international adventure while making a difference.  

WHO: U.S. artists with a bachelor's degree or equivalent prior to starting a grant. In the creative and performing arts, four years of professional training and/or experience qualifies as a basic qualification.

NUMBER: Varies, but usually includes a round-trip ticket to the host country and funding to cover living, food and lodging expenses for the duration of the project, as well as health benefits. Depending on the application, training and educational courses.

Scope: Animation, Design & Crafts, Drawing & Illustration, Film, Installation, Painting/Printing, Photography & Sculpture.

DEADLINE: October 2018 for the 2019-2020 contest
